Barista Basics - Communication Essentials

**Pre-requisite:  Barista Basics - Operations**

This short course includes coffee art (week 3 - 2 hours, non-accredited) and learning to use effective communication, listen actively and follow workplace communication protocols.

What you will learn (BSBCMM211 weeks 1- 4):

  • Coffee Art (week 3)
  • Focuses on developing effective communication in business
  • Involves tailoring messages for different audiences
  • Emphasises active listening, clear expression, and professional interaction
  • Covers using verbal and non-verbal communication techniques in various workplace scenarios

Students choosing to be assessed will receive a Statement of Attainment in BSBCMM211 Apply communication skills upon successful completion.

Week 1: Theory at HKCC

Week 2: Theory and Assessments at HKCC

Week 3:  Practice at Witham's Coffee

Week 4: Theory and Assessments at HKCC

Assessments are made against units of competency from the Certificate II in Workplace Skills BSB20120.

• Are an AUS citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder, or a NZ citizen
• 15 years or older
• Live or work in NSW
• No longer at school or equivalent

AND (ONE of the following for ACE)

• Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
• Receiving government benefits or are a dependent of someone who does
• Living with a disability 
• Dependent of someone with a disability
• Low language, literacy, numeracy or digital skills 
• Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) 
• Unemployed, working part-time, or returning to work 
• Experiencing financial hardship 
• Facing personal challenges (e.g., family/domestic violence, recovery from addiction, or involvement with the justice system)
• Aged 15-24 and at risk of not continuing education or finding a job
• Did not complete Year 12 or equivalent
• TSB funding stream (For small business owners or employees)
